Blacksmith to the rescue!!

Once again, I find myself using ancient technology on modern machines. Good ol' fashion heat and beat! I had to repair a large oil filter canister the other day. The pressure spiked and blew the cap off, twisting the steel in the process. I had to gas cut some of the welds before I straightened it. Basically the cap is a hemisphere with a retainer ring tack welded in place to hold the o-ring. I have a bunch of "weird" hammers that came in real handy. In about an hour i had the cap reshaped to a dome and the flanged edge flattened to perfection! Then I welded the ring back into place and it's been holding for a few days now under about 95 psi.
